Market research of the women's fragrance market in America has shown that girls begin to use fragrance at the age of 10, with 12 per cent commencing to do so below the age of 10, that includes body spray.

Survey respondents mentioned that on average the respondents claimed to own seven fragrances .

58 per cent of respondents stated that they use fragrance every day.

80 per cent claimed to use fragrances "for themselves".

There were some key reasons for changing to another brand: 71 per cent cited mood change; 54 per cent mentioned a special occasion; 28 per cent a change of season; 16 per cent did so on a friend's recommendation; 10 per cent mentioned popularity of fragrance, with another 15 per cent not citing any particular reason.

The average woman sticks to wearing her favourite fragrance for three years.

When women are looking to buy perfume, 53 per cent usually try a new brand, with 47 per cent choosing their favourite brand
