Fri, 13 Aug 2010
Proctor and Gamble is going to to introduce sugar cane in its packaging of cosmetics .

Procter and Gamble (P&G) intends to use sugar cane-based plastics for packaging its Covergirl, Pantene Pro-V and Max Factor brands from 2011.

P&G has just announced that it will pilot the new packaging internationally over the next two years and expect the first products to be on our shelves by 2011.

Braschem, a Brazilian firm, is manufacturing the HDPE material from sugar cane which can be totally recycled in current reprocessing facilities.

The move is said to be consumer driven because market research has shown that women from all over the world do wish to beautify themselves, but not at the expense of the environment.

In 2009 Coca-Cola launched its PlantBottle which is manufactured from PET, a derivative of sugar cane and molasses crops.
