No well known Spanish supermarket had created their own private makeup label which had provided the cosmetics industry with a windfall until 2010.
Last spring saw the majority of supermarkets as well as department stores start their own cosmetics lines, with many now sitting alongside their "sisters" on the shelves.
This has placed extra pressure on the best known brands, although their accounts have continued to improve.
Lancome Genefique, Yves Saint Laurent makeup and Ralph Lauren fragrances, which all fall under L'Oreal Spain, have seen healthy increases in their international sales, with L'Oreal Spain experiencing a 11.6% increase in sales in the first 9 months of 2010.
The big brands are in a situation where they must live with their competitors.
