Women in the south of Britain prefer a more natural look when it comes to makeup, while those living in the north are big fans of fake tan lotions, false eyelashes and lashings of lipstick.
According to a nationwide study conducted by Debenhams, Londoners would rather spend their money on moisturiser, concealer, mascara, powder and lip gloss than fake tan. The research also found that ladies in the north and Scotland regularly stock up on tanning lotion, bronzer and false eyelashes before a night out.
The only area in the south that bucks the trend for minimal makeup is Essex, with the cult TV hit The Only Way Is Essex helping boost sales of tanning lotions and false lashes.
Spokesperson for Debenhams Ruth Attridge stated: "This beauty research helps us manage where we send our stock and when. Shipments of fake tan will be winging their way up north. But when it comes to starting the Saturday night getting-ready ritual in store The Only Way Is Essex."
