The supermarket giant Tesco has announced that it is to launch a series of beauty salons .
Presently, the salons are having a trail run at Tesco Extra stores in Dudley, Horwich and Newport and a range of beauty treatments including leg waxing, brow shaping and haircutting are available instore. Treatments at the supermarket will be offered in a partnership with Regis beauty salons and will be on a drop-in basis only.
However there are fears that the retail giant, with over 2000 stores in the UK, will force local salons to close. Critics have slated the move saying that by entering the beauty market, Tesco will harm local beauty salon owners who are already finding it a strain in the current climate.
As part of the expansion of its beauty departments, Tesco has also increased its limited beauty range to stock 700 new products, with 24 new prestige brands including products by Crabtree and Evelyn, beauty and skincare by Australian brand Natio and premium tanning products by St Tropez. The products will be available online, as well as in selected stores.
