Perfume, Eau de Parfum as well as Eau de Toilette – it’s easy to become confused with all the different kinds of fragrances that are on offer.
Perfumes are in fact essential oils which have been diluted with up to 78% to 95% denatured ethyl alcohol; the fragrance depends on the percentage of the dilution.
It’s all about the strength
Fragrances are on sale in different strengths: perfume, Eau de Parfum as well as Eau de Toilette, with respective price differences.
- Perfume consists of approximately 22% essential oils. It is most expensive and fabulous for special occasions.
- Eau de Parfum has longevity of between 5 and 7 hours and is great for an all day event.
- Eau de Toilette is the cheapest version (comprised of between 8% to 10% essential oils) and lasting for between 4 to 6 hours.
Male fragrances or Eau de Colognes are lighter than the above, consisting of just 4% essential oils.
