Sales of perfume and cosmetic products in France have recovered, reverting to pre-recession levels, even though the Christmas period saw disappointing sales.
These are the findings of market research recently undertaken by the NPD Group.
Total 2010 beauty sales, including colour cosmetics, skin care and perfumery hit €2.84bn, up 3 per cent on the previous year’s figures. Sales had declined by one per cent in 2009.
Colour cosmetics sales grew the most in 2010, by 5 per cent to reach €416m.
Without any doubt this is due to the colour cosmetics market witnessing new product launches. The makeup market saw notable product launches of nail varnishes and lipsticks .
Fragrance sales increased by 2 per cent on last year’s figures, hitting €1.85bn.
Skin care saw anti-ageing take the lead, with sales growing 2 per cent on the previous year figures, hitting €573m in sales.
